MUSIC > Distinctive Dub-Blz

Dwight Green and Jay Reedy, together known as Distinctive Dub-blz, started as separate hip hop DJs in Washington, D.C. in 1998. But after hearing the East Coast Boogiemen in 1999 at the Cage in downtown D.C. these two talented musicians started changing their tune and buying up those 4/4 beat records all house heads crave.

Growing up together in Virginia Beach, VA, Jay and Dwight first met in their high school while Dwight was in the 9th grade and Jay was in a junior. The two started their putting their musical talents to use at first in band class as tuba players. Quickly becoming the best of friends, their close friendship is ever present in their sets as the two work off one anotherís tracks and flow.

Before the two joined forces, Jay opened for Derrick May and Doc Martin, separately, at the Edge in D.C. as well as D.C. favorite spots Five and Red. Once the two both moved to New York City in 2000, they banded together and started throwing their own parties at various lounges under the name Gruv at Casa Mexicana, CafÈ Novecento, Carnival, Naked Lunch, Leopard Lounge and Tribe. They have also had guest spots at a number of other venues, including Plant Bar, Guernica, M Bar, Abaya, Laila Lounge, Galapagos and various other venues.

Their inspirations come from some of the most well known and respected electronica DJs and hip hop artists out there: Derrick May, DJ Heather, Demarkus Lewis, DJ Sneak, East Coast Boogiemen, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, RZA, Derrick Carter and more.
